National Geographic Pictures –
Exercises in matching colors
Timeline - Oct 7- Nov 8, 2013 –5 weeks
Objective - Students will learn advanced color mixing
skills, and create 3 small paintings
Supplies - 18x22 watercolor paper, gesso, acrylic
paint, brushes, National Geographic Magazines
Activities –
1. Students
will choose 3 National Geographic photos with large close up subjects, draw them out on gessoed paper, and
paint each one 11x18, matching the colors accurately.
2. Students
will create a color strip of 10-12 colors for each painting along the bottom or
top edge of their paper
3. Mat
work when finished.
Assessment –
1. Completion
of 3 -11x14 paintings with accurate color matching
2. Students
will journal their progress daily on their blog
